sweet morphine
A late summer evening—
color of watermelon,
color of watered down
blood.
My mother
sits on her broken chair,
smoking cigarette
after cigarette,
letting herself forget
the tumor
in her chest
feeding on melancholy,
letting herself forget
the disappearing sun.
